Assignment 1 – Statistics DRAFT

This is an individual project. I have attached the assignment descriptions, data files, and the template for the paper.


I require a draft of your assignment during this week. At bare minimum submit your answers to parts 1 through 5. It will allow you to get feedback and make corrections before the final submission. Below is a video which walks you through the first four parts of the project and explains how to to answer part 5. I use a sample data set, and the steps and methods are the same for your assignment. You will just be using the data from your assigned project. I have also attached the assignment instructions and data sets as a convenience.

In the Week 2 folder I have the project assignments listed. You also should have received an e-mail specifying which assignment you are to complete.

In Week 3 folder I have videos for part 1 (Histogram https://cdnapisec.kaltura.com/index.php/extwidget/… ) and part 2 (mean, median, and standard deviation https://cdnapisec.kaltura.com/index.php/extwidget/…. ) I have placed for your convenience below videos on how to use my Excel file (which is also attached to Dr. Wilson’s Input in the Weeks 7 and 8 Instructor Insights folder) to calculate confidence intervals (part 3) and conduct hypothesis tests (https://cdnapisec.kaltura.com/index.php/extwidget/…)(part 4 https://cdnapisec.kaltura.com/index.php/extwidget/… ). For this assignment, you will need to determine whether you should use the Mean Z-test or Mean t-test worksheet, since you are asked to find the 95% confidence interval about the mean and conduct a test about the mean. These videos are also available in the Week 7 and 8 Instructor Insights folders, along with topic specific videos.

Once you have the results of your hypothesis test, you can determine if you need to address (a) or (b) of part 5. If you fail to reject the null (p-value is GREATER than significance level), you do not have support for the alternative hypothesis. If you reject the null (p-value is SMALLER than significance level), you have evidence the alternative hypothesis is true.
