Evaluating a Qualitative Study

Question 1: Is the context/setting of the study adequately described?

Question 2: Are techniques for data collection appropriate for the research problem? Are they thoroughly and precisely described?

Question 3: Are multiple data sources used?

Question 4: Are sufficient data collected from a variety of participants over an appropriate length of time?

Question 5: Are criteria for the selection of participants or materials presented?

Question 6: Is the sample described in sufficient detail?

Question 7: Are potential ethical concerns appropriately addressed?

Question 8: Are roles of the researcher and participants made clear?

Question 9: Does the researcher identify any assumptions, beliefs, values, or biases that might influence data collection or analysis?

Question 10: Does the researcher actively look for evidence that might disconfirm initial hypothesis?

Go to the Hunt Library (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and find a peer-reviewed/scholarly qualitative research article on a topic of your choice. This should be different than any articles you have used in previous modules/assignments. Using the “Evaluating a Qualitative Study” checklist in Chapter 11, review the article methodology (questions 1-10). Describe how the author(s) did or did not meet the expectations for each question (i.e. do not simply answer “yes” or “no”). Be sure to include an APA formatted reference citation for each article.
