Introduction to Quantitative Analysis: Descriptive Analysis

In this Assignment, you will differentiate between the proper use of summary statistics for categorical and continuous level data. In this exercise, you will explore what output is provided for each of these variables and provide some meaning from these statistics for your reader. The ability to place the statistics into a context that your reader understands and can make sense of is a highly desirable skill.

For this Introduction to Quantitative Analysis: Descriptive Analysis Assignment, you will examine the same two variables used from a previous assignment and perform the appropriate descriptive analysis of the data given. These are #10 Does Respondent Own or Rent Home? And #20 Respondents Income. Make sure these are a continuous and categorical variable. If not choose 1 continuous variable and 1 categorical variable fin order to complete the assignment.

To complete this Discussion:

  • Review the learning resources for the Descriptive Statistics video transcript attached.
  • Using the SPSS software, open the General Social Survey data-set found attached.
  • Review the data for variables 10 and 20; does respondent rent/own home and respondents income.
  • Next post, present, and report a descriptive analysis for your variables
  • Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your descriptive analysis results and include a copy and paste your output from your analysis into your final document.

For your continuous variable:

  • Report the mean, median, and mode.
  • What might be the better measure for central tendency? (i.e., mean, median, or mode) and why?
  • Report the standard deviation.
  • How variable are the data?
  • How would you describe this data?
  • What sort of research question would this variable help answer that might inform social change?

Post the following information for your categorical variable:

  • A frequency distribution.
  • An appropriate measure of variation.
  • How variable are the data?
  • How would you describe this data?
  • What sort of research question would this variable help answer that might inform social change?

Do some research in order to support your summary using at least 3 appropriate scholarly citations and references. Use proper APA format.
