Parenting Challenges

 

In the article, Your policies, our children: Messages from refugee parents to child welfare workers and policymakers, refugee parents discuss their feelings about the parenting challenges faced by immigrants. When discussing the difficulties of parenting in a new country, one parent shared that “we feel our children are out of our hands.” After reading the article, discuss two specific challenges faced by immigrant families in relation to parenting and childcare. Considering these challenges, describe the role of the childcare program and educator. Incorporate information on how one might support family values and culture while aiding the family’s transition to a new country.
