random sample null hypothesis

A researcher collected a simple random sample of 25-34 year olds from each of four states, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, and New York, and recorded if the members of the samples completed college degrees. Results:

  • Arkansas: Sample size is 50, and 15 out of this sample completed college degrees.
  • Illinois: Sample size is 60, and 27 out of this sample completed college degrees.
  • Louisiana: Sample size is 60, and 18 out of this sample completed college degrees.
  • New York: Sample size is 80, and 40 out of this sample completed college degrees.

At a 99% level of confidence, test the null hypothesis that the proportions of 25-34 year olds that completed college degrees are equal for these four states. (Show work)
