Reflection | Nursing Term Paper

Reflective practice is a cognitive skill which ask you to make a conscious effort to look at a situation with an awareness of your own beliefs, your values, and your practice.  Through reflective practice, you enable yourself to learn from experiences, to incorporate that learning in improving patient care outcomes, and leads to knowledge development in nursing.  Reflection is much like clinical reasoning – but differs in that the problem solving leads to gaining a new perspective, rather than just solving the problem and it can change in the view of self, values and beliefs.
Your submission can be an APA 7th ed. written paper, an oral PowerPoint, or use a media recording tool. Whichever you choose you should address your reflections-for-action by reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating you, as an active RN in the course.

A reminder, our course objectives are:

Perform retrieval of nursing related information from computer technologies, Internet, and the World Wide Web (WWW).
Examine current and future technologies as they relate to the support of patient care, such as electronic health and medical records (EHR/EMR), patient monitoring systems, and medication administration systems.
Investigate key trends and issues in healthcare informatics and the impact on health care computer information systems.
Imagine the role of the nurse in handling health care data.

Reflection-for-action submission requirements:
Your written submission should have:

APA 7th ed formatted title page
APA 7th ed. font, spacing, with APA 7th ed. formatted in-text citation(s)
Your reflections should begin with an introduction to the course, you, and by stating the purpose of the reflection-for-action paper, ‘setting the scene’ to identify what made who you were at the start of the course worthy of reflection?  What did you know:

before taking the Required Academic Activity quiz
before your participation in the discussion boards where you examined current and future technologies to support patient care, and where you retrieved nursing related information from computer technologies, Internet, and the World Wide Web, and how this impacted your role as a nurse on the unit handling health care data.
before your completion of the SAFER Guide where you utilized your organization to examine issues in healthcare informatics and the impact on health care computer information systems, and how this impacted your role as a nurse on the unit handling health care data.
before your participation in the Key Issues and Trends Project where you examined current and future technologies which support of patient care, where you related key trends and issues in healthcare informatics and the impact on health care computer information systems

Your reflections should then address what you brought to the ‘scene’/the course that had an impact. Consider evaluating the actions you took to participate in discussion boards, the SAFER Guide, the Key Issues and Trends team project. How effective were your actions?  And consider what didn’t you bring (knowledge, openness) to the ‘scene’/course that may have made the situation different? What did you observe in the reactions/responses others had to your actions?

With scholarly support and reflection, discuss your role as the RN handling health care data, the application of confidentiality principles and ethical considerations in healthcare, nursing informatics to nursing practice, and the RNs role as a professional nurse in healthcare informatics.
Identify at least one action/initiative/communication effort/etc. you would like to do differently next time in a discussion board/unit review/team assignment. Scholarly support is provided on why this action/initiative/communication effort would be helpful to the professional development of the RN.
