SPSS – Data analysis and Results section

Analyze ‘Fake Smile’ database using the most appropriate statistical procedures to answer the following questions in APA format (write a mini ‘Results’ section for each question; clearly identify the addressed question; identify the procedure used and in case of transformations clearly describe how the values were transformed; whether there were any outliers and what was your treatment of the outliers. Include figures with the answers for the questions (when necessary). For each question include RELEVANT SPSS output (just the relevant table/graphs).

a) Compare frequencies for ‘extroversion’ (2 levels: low and high) between people who scored low and high on ‘optimism’. Prepare appropriate visual display.

b) How well did students’ estimates of ‘how many smiles they correctly identified’ relate to their actual performance?

c) Were students better at guessing fake or real smiles?

d) Was there a relationship between someone’s ability to guess fake and genuine smiles?

e) Compare low and high extraverts in different ‘instruction conditions’ (smile/frown) on their estimation of smiles correctly identified following the study (smileest). Create appropriate visual display.

f) Compare participants’ confidence before and after in different ‘instruction conditions’ (lips/teeth). Create appropriate visual display.

g) Were people of low/medium/high emotional intelligence different in terms of their ability to correctly judge the smiles?

h) Identify five VERY interesting questions, use appropriate analyses, and report your findings (ensure variability in statistical procedures selected for analyses). Don’t forget about the judgements of happiness of the individuals in the videos. Create appropriate visual displays when needed.
