Week 7 DQ 1 – response to classmate Nick Miranda, statistics homework help

Multiple regressions are used when one wants to get a prediction of the value of a particular variable based on two or more variables. A study that looks at how much time high school students spent online can be carried out using multiple regressions. Most parents have a challenge when it comes to convincing their children to limit how much time they spent online. There are a lot of fun activities that these students take part in online and that is why it is not easy to convince them to reduce the amount of time they spent online. The relationship between the parent and the child has a huge impact on how much time they spent online.

The independent variables in this study are related to the student’s character such as age, gender, and the relationship with both parents: father and mother whereas the dependent variable is how much time is spent online. The null hypothesis will be that the amount of time a high school student spends online is equal to the number of hours a parent spends with them. The alternative hypothesis is that the amount of time spent online by a high school student is not equal to how much time a parent spends with them. Multiple regressions are very appropriate for this study since its use will be able to give the clear picture of how much time this student spent online and how a relationship with the parent affects this.

Even though the use of multiple regressions will show us how the relationship between the parent and the child affects time spent online, there are other factors that have an impact and need to be looked at. Since the results will only be focusing on the most important factors that affect the students time spent online, there are other minor factors that will not be brought into focus. It is true that the amount of time spent online cannot be solely based on how much time either parent spends with the student.
